Unfinished pencil drawing on light biscuit brown paper, with touches of Chinese white in sky and middle distance; also a few touches of crimson water-colour in the turbans of the arabs who are seated around their encampment. This work is one of seven purchased at the Christie's sale held in aid of the British Red Cross Society. Miss Julia Reckitt donated the sum of £50 and the Art Fund purchased the works and distributed them to seven public institutions including the British Museum, Tate, Birmingham and Manchester.
