Derwentwater from Skiddaw, Cumberland
Thomas Hearne, 1777–1787

Thomas Hearne was among those who made the Picturesque Tour to the Lakes; he made two tours, in 1777 and 1778, both in the company of Sir George Beaumont and Joseph Farington who are probably represented in this view descending from the mountain. Hearne's restrained colour, and use of muted tones, is typical of his work.
