De Grote Boodschap

Omer Fast, 2007

This video adds to the collection of contemporary works Bristol has built up through the Art Fund International scheme and reflect on the museum's historic international collections. The video work of Israeli artist Omer Fast brings another Middle Eastern perspective by examining the form of storytelling itself. Fast employs his hallmark device of the loop in this group of scenarios that take place in neighbouring apartments in a multicultural city. The juxtaposed rooms become visual metaphors for the compartments of the film, as one set of inhabitants anxiously eavesdrop the othersÂ’ coming and goings, a scenario ripe for misinterpretation. Loneliness, alienation and racism are the themes. Secrets, mistrust and misunderstandings characterise the video and events spill over from each separate story making the viewer double take where the story originates. This work was presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
