Crumpled Vase

Nicholas Arroyave-Portela, 2000

© By permission of Nicholas Arroyave-Portela Ceramics

The artist has an interesting technique of throwing the vases and then manipulating them when they are still wet, ending up with an arresting crumpled effect. The vase uses St. Thomas clay, thrown, manipulated, and sprayed with red-brown 'terra sigilata' and blue-stained slips.
