Collection of Portrait Engravings
Robert Nanteuil, 1623–1678

A collection of 34 portrait engravings including first states of the portraits of Jacques Amelot, Claude Auvry, Bishop of Coutances, and Denis Talon, all of which there are as many as 3 later states. They form part of a larger collection of 45 French portrait engravings, chiefly of the seventeenth century presented to the Ashmolean through the Art Fund in 1951. The series includes 27 by Francois Cheran the Elder; 7 by the various members of the Drevet family (Claude, Pierre, and Pierre Imbert), and one each by Gerard Edelinck, Pierre-Louis Van Schuppen, and Jean-George Wille.
