Collection of 18 Japanese wooden, bronze and ceramic decorative objects

Various, 1800-1913

This highly significant contribution to the Eastern Art department includes a number of rare pieces from the Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-26) periods, as well as several earlier Edo ceramics (1600-1867). Many were made in the renowned Makuzu workshop in Yokohama and will enhance the museumÂ’s established collection and reputation as a centre for study in Makuzu ware. Other leading potters of late-19th and early-20th centuries are also represented, including Miura Chikusen (1854-1915), Miyanaga Tozan (1868-1941) and Seifu Yohei (1851-1914).
