Classical Landscape with a City by a River
Francisque Millet, c. 1670

Francisque Millet was acknowledged in his day as one of the best interpreters of Poussin's landscape style, and this work added to the Walker collection of works by Poussin and his followers. In technique and subject matter Millet's Classical Landscape simulates the landscapes of Poussin, the deliberate imitation of Poussinesque motifs extending to the setting of the buildings in relation to rocks and sky.
