Christ Supported by Angels

Francesco Trevisani, 1700–1720

Against a dark background, the dead Christ is supported on a winding-sheet by two angels, one in a predominantly blue, the other in a red, robe. The figures occupy the lower two-thirds of the composition although the wing of the angel, to the right of the spectator, against the white of which the head of Christ stands out, reaches almost to the top of the painting.
