George Washington Jack, 1855–1931

Jack, an eminent architect and talented Arts and Crafts furniture designer, was also a woodcarver of distinction. This piece, of dark walnut carved in very low relief, depicts a foliage of tulips and other flowers. In some light it was thought to give the impression of leather.
