Art Funded by you

Bergere Assise

Jean-François Millet, 1848

Millet was a farmer's son and in the late 1840s he became increasingly disenchanted with urban life and the rapacious progress of industrialisation. Nostalgia for the calm, settled rural life of his youth led him to make everyday rural life the central theme of his work.
