Arctic Evening
Suvinai Ashoona, 2003
Shuvinai Ashoona produces imaginative, creative works that combine myth-history, personal iconography, and very private symbolism. Her work is typically not as readily accessible as her more famous cousin, Annie Pootoogook, but Shuvinai is considered the stronger artist. This work is an ostensibly neutral image of a contemporary Inuit home, in which a variety of commodities and global brands are visible. This acquisition was presented by the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
