A Watering Place in Marshland with a distant Tower
Camille Corot, 1860–1870

One of three paintings donated by Mrs McCleve to York Art Gallery. The theme of figures and animals next to a watering place is widespread in Corot's work, and illustrates how the evocation of mood eventually became more important to the artist than the specific nature of a particular location.
