A view of a Bridge near Horsham in Sussex

George Robertson, c. 1770

This is the earliest view of any aspect of Horsham. The view is probably of Tan bridge over the River Arun looking up stream to the weir of Horsham Town Mill, with the vegetation and angle excluding the industrial buildings. Tan bridge was first built in the 1300's but by 1764 turnpikes had been installed.
