A Venetian engraved latticino plate

Unknown artist, 1575

This plate illustrates the three main decorative techniques used in Venetian glass at this period - latticino (i.e. milky glass) threads, granular gilding, and diamond-point engraving. The plate is decorated with winged satyrs holding cornucopia, swags with eagles and lion masks.
