Art Funded by you

A Man frightened by a Monstrous Foot

Guercino, 1505–1567

Like other prints and drawings acquired by the Walker Art Gallery, this curious sketch belonged to William Roscoe (1753-1831) whose early Italian and Flemish pictures formed the nucleus of the gallery's collection. Guercino made a number of these fantastic drawings. They do not relate to paintings and were evidently made for the amusement of the artist and his friends.
