A Lincolnshire Pasture

Joseph Crawhall, 1882

© Dundee City Council, Arts & Heritage

Painted whilst working with James Guthrie - both employing vigorous handling characteristic of the Dutch Impressionists whose work was popular in Glasgow at that time. There is also a Whistlerian emphasis on tonal qualities and flat design. Inscribed bottom left; 'To my Father, J.Crawhall Jnr'.
