Art Funded by you

A collection of works by Christopher Dresser

Christopher Dresser, 1865–1903

Christopher Dresser was a British designer whose work was not only vastly ahead of its time but is still inspirational today in terms of its functionality, simplicity and aesthetic. Dresser's work was a precursor to that of the Weiner Werkstatte, Bauhaus and in general, modern design, reacting against decadent and excessively ornate items of Victorian design and striving to embrace modern materials and production techniques. The present collection of objects acquired by the Dorman Museum comprises a broad range of kitchenware – from tea sets, to simple bowls, toast racks and eggs cups – and an assortment of other domestic items, and a good deal of decorative ware, including vases, a moon flask and a sake bottle.
