8 Iron Age twofaced gold staters from Wokefield

Iron Age, 60

Metal detectorists discovered this hoard of eight Iron Age gold coins near Wokefield, West Berkshire, in 2017. The coins are known as Selsey Two-Faced staters, and feature a design on both sides. All eight have a three-tailed running horse on one face, while the reverse sides show a range of figures and symbols, including shapes resembling a chicken and a stalk of wheat or barley.

The coins now join more than a dozen other local coin hoards held by West Berkshire Museum.
