Peter Kennard, kennardphillipps, 1–2) 1985; 3) 1973–1991; 4) 2003; 5) 2005
Peter Kennard's work responds to the social and political situation around him. His methods and approach have developed around his desire to express anger and revulsion but also motivated by the wish to inspire positive action and protest. The Herbert has worked with Peter Kennard and Cat Picton-Phillips to explore the best ways to represent their work in the collection and to work together in the future. These works also explore the role of the artist as activist and the power of visual imagery in campaigning and inspiring action. The Herbert is developing a collection around the themes of conflict, peace and reconciliation and these works play a key part. The Art Fund helped the Herbert purchase three other works for this collection in 2010.
