We have partnered with the US-based Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation to provide funding for eight UK curators to attend the AAMC & AAMC Foundation annual conference in New York City, 4-7 May 2019.

This new funding programme aims to help UK curators engage meaningfully and with authority on the international stage, developing their own experience and learning while also raising the profile of their institutions and collections abroad.

Through the programme we hope that new relationships will be brokered between institutions in the UK and internationally, stimulating collaboration in all areas of activity from loans to public programmes.

The fellowship will cover the expenses of up to eight UK-based curators in 2019, providing funding for their registration fees for the conference and associated weekend tours, travel and accommodations; a pairing with a peer US-based curator to offer collegial partnership throughout the conference; an invitation to the AAMC Foundation’s Program Alumni Reception; and a 2-year AAMC membership, among other benefits.

Following the conference fellows will be able to draw down additional research and development grants to activate ideas and develop relationships witht their international counterparts.

Stephen Deuchar, director of Art Fund, said: ‘One of Art Fund’s aims as an organisation is to support the development of curatorial expertise in Britain’s museums, and we believe that many specialists here would benefit from forging stronger links with their US counterparts. So we’re very pleased now to be working with AAMC to offer this new opportunity to all UK-based art curators.’

‘Fostering collaboration and engagement between curators across geographical boundaries is critical to our mission,' said Judith Pineiro, executive director, AAMC & AAMC Foundation. ‘We are immensely grateful for Art Fund recognising the value this programme has on the curatorial field and our larger museum community.’
