Q&A: Frances Quinn

  • 7 October 2015

Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn is one of three creative experts who will be judging our competition to find the Ultimate Edible Masterpiece of 2015.

What's your favourite food/dish?

I'm a big porridge fan and love to play around with the toppings or create pictures using a stencil and cinnamon. Cinnamon buns are my favourite baked good, while I also love to eat bountiful bowls of veggies, sweet potato, houmous and grains. Oven chips and ketchup are a guilty pleasure.

Sweet or savoury?

It depends on my mood; I like to mix both.

Which artists do you find most inspiring?

Having studied Textile Design I’m attracted to striking colour, mark making and pattern. Matisse, Patrick Heron and Rothko are all favourites of mine.

What are you looking for in an Edible Masterpiece?

A culinary creation that captures both interesting use of ideas and ingredients. If chocolate ganache/gouache features even better!

Which work of art would you most like to see recreated by our bakers?

I’m looking forward to being surprised...

Who would you invite to your ultimate tea party?

Quentin Blake (although he’s not actually a big fan of cake!) Paul Smith, Heston Blumenthal and Miranda Hart.

Why do you think it's important to support museums and galleries?

They are like walk-in sketchbooks – a space to experience and explore the art and artists on display right there in person.
