Art Everywhere artworks announced by Gormley and Perry

  • 16 July 2014

This morning, Antony Gormley and Grayson Perry revealed the works that have been chosen by the British public to appear on bus stops and billboards around the country.

The 25 great British artworks will appear on over 30,000 poster sites around the country as part of Art Everywhere, the UK's biggest art show, from 21 July to 31 August 2014.

The artists represented range from David Hockney to Dame Laura Knight, Gillian Wearing to George Frederic Watts. Have a look at the complete list.

Over 38,000 votes were received via Facebook to select the nation’s favourite works, which will be shown on bus shelters, underground stations, roadside billboards, motorway services, national rail networks, shopping centres and airports across the UK – and will be seen by 90% of the population. The art will also be shown at an Art Everywhere on-screen exhibition at over 1,000 Vue cinemas in August.

As part of today’s launch, Antony Gormley also unveiled a specially-commissioned digital artwork that is now available as a free download. The work, entitled Feeling Material, will be shown on digital poster sites across the UK, including London’s Waterloo Station and Piccadilly Circus, and Manchester’s Trafford Centre, as well as on screens inside over 2,000 black cabs. Antony Gormley has also donated 100 signed limited-edition works, available for donations over £950, with the proceeds going towards Art Everywhere. Both the digital and limited-edition works will be available from 16 July until 31 August. Building on the success of the 2013 exhibition, which ran for a fortnight, Art Everywhere 2014 has been extended to six weeks.

Grayson Perry said: 'I think Art Everywhere is a wonderful way of taking art out of museums and galleries into the streets and environment of people’s everyday lives. I am delighted that my work has been shortlisted for this imaginative and highly original project.'

Antony Gormley said of his involvement in Art Everywhere: 'I am delighted to be able to support this wonderful project and wish it every success. It is very exciting that members of the public have been able to select works for the exhibition, and that so many people are likely to see the works on poster sites and bus shelters across the country.'

Stephen Deuchar, director of the Art Fund said: 'Art Everywhere is a celebration of great British art, with thousands of Brits voting for their favourites to be displayed on poster sites across the country over the coming weeks. The new work by celebrated artist Antony Gormley, made especially for this project, will be a wonderful legacy – and a way of thanking the art-loving public, who made the whole initiative possible.'

Art Everywhere is a collaborative project led by Clear Channel, Exterion Media and JCDecaux, including Ocean Outdoor, Storm and Outdoor Plus. Founding partners are Richard Reed (co-founder of Innocent Drinks), the Art Fund, Tate, creative agency 101, Posterscope, Vizeum, Easyart and Facebook. Out-of-home media owners have once again donated the sites to enable the nation’s favourite British art to be seen across the UK.
