Thanks to our support, the British Museum and the V&A are developing an important collection of contemporary photography focusing on the Middle East - the Art Fund Collection of Middle Eastern Photography.

The Collection, which has been jointly researched and collected by the two museums, has been in development since 2009. More than 80 works, mainly produced in the last ten years by 22 emerging and established artists living in the region or in diaspora, respond to the social challenges and political upheavals of the Middle East over the last 30 years, including recent photographs created in reaction to the Arab Spring in 2011.

Light from the Middle East: New Photography

A major exhibition, Light from the Middle East: New Photography will showcase many of the works at the V&A from 13 November. The exhibition includes internationally established artists such as Abbas, Youssef Nabil and Walid Raad alongside emerging talents such as Taysir Batniji, Shadi Ghadirian and Abdulnasser Gharem. Thanks to further funding from us, the exhibition is set to tour the UK after its showing in London and we’ll let you know more about this in due course.
