In the run up to the winner announcement on June 15th, we get to know each short listed museum a little better....

Age: 91 or 1 – I’ve been here since 1920, but I’m now a rejuvenated one year old, thanks to a lot of hard work and generous donations

Describe yourself in three words... Friendly, significant and cool

What is your most treasured possession? The final words of an iconic Briton. Captain Scott’s last letter to his wife Kathleen, written knowing that he would not survive, is one of the most moving documents in the English language

Your most famous visitor is... Prince William (or Sir Ranulph Fiennes). I was delighted when Princes William and Harry came to see me to learn more about ice and environmental change. Sir Ranulph is a regular visitor (and my biggest fan)

Star seller... The best seller in my shop is a 3D holographic ruler featuring dancing penguins and polar bears

Any museum pets? I keep a penguin. He’s been with me since 1957 and is a favourite with everyone

One thing that could make you better is... I’d like a bit more space – for buggies and bags, creativity and sandwiches and I wish I could provide more seats and toilets

You have a museum crush on... The Fram Museum, Oslo – wish I had room for a whole ship like they have!

What do you most dislike about your appearance? The empty corner outside that could be more interesting – there’s room for another large object or a commemorative sculpture

You’re most happy when… I’m full of people of all ages talking to each other, exploring and having fun
