Somerset given more time to fundraise for Frome Hoard

  • 23 February 2011

The deadline to raise funds to save the Frome Hoard for the Museum of Somerset has been extended until the end of March to give more time for the funds to be raised. Almost £100,000 of the £320,250 needed is already in the pot.

The news of the extension comes as we announce the success of our match-funding initiative. £10,000 has been raised by members of the public which we have doubled to create a total of £20,000, in addition to our £40,250 grant which kick-started the campaign.

The Museum of Somerset now has until the end of March to raise the full amount needed to ensure that the coins are kept in Somerset.

Stephen Deuchar, Director of the Art Fund said: “The Frome Hoard has really captured the imaginations of the public and thanks to their generosity we are able to double their donations to £20,000 through our match-funding appeal. This is a great boost to the Frome Hoard campaign and I hope that people will continue to give to keep this extraordinary treasure on display in Somerset.”

Stephen Minnitt, Head of the Museum of Somerset said: “I am delighted at progress being made with the fund raising. We are still awaiting the outcomes of a number of applications to grant giving bodies and, whilst nothing is guaranteed, I very much hope that we will reach the target by the end of March.”
