Art Fund responds to arts funding inquiry

  • 1 September 2010

The Art Fund has today responded to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee inquiry into arts and heritage funding.

Museums and other publicly-funded arts and heritage bodies have been asked to prepare for cuts of up to 40%, and the Committee is looking at the impact these cuts might have, and how government can encourage donations. In our response, we have argued that such severe cuts will hamper museums efforts to raise money from the private sector, and that if government is serious about encouraging philanthropy, it will need to accept the central role that tax incentives play.
