Clore Fellows in conversation at The Art Fund

  • 5 December 2007

The Art Fund has been hosting an exciting series of seminars in conjunction with the Clore Leadership Programme at which past Clore Fellows present their research in conversation with their mentors or other fellows.

Each year, Clore fellows are chosen to undertake an individual programme of learning, work, research, training, and secondment, designed to develop their leadership skills.  We’re asking them to come and share their experiences.

Most recently Nick Merriman, Director, Manchester Museum and Maria Balshaw, Director, Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, discussed values-led leadership, asking how a museum could remain quirky, innovative and exciting.

Drawing on their own collaborative experience in Manchester, Nick and Maria explored a radical approach to leadership where values are the fundamental driver of an institutional vision rather than peripheral to core purpose.  They shared their own frustrations and successes in implementing this type of organisational structure. To listen to a recording of the last event click here (15Mb).
