The Art Fund Prize 2008: the call for entries has begun

  • Published 31 August 2007

Submissions for The Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries 2008 - the UK's largest single arts prize - are invited from Monday 3 September 2007.

The Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries (formerly the Gulbenkian Prize) is intended to recognise and stimulate originality and excellence in museums and galleries and increase public appreciation and enjoyment of all they have to offer.

The coveted annual award of £100,000 is open to all accredited museums and galleries in the UK. This is the first year that The Art Fund has sponsored this major arts prize. It has taken over sponsorship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, who launched the prize in 2003 and whose five-year development support came to an end earlier this year.

Previous winners of the prize include the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh; Big Pit: the National Mining Museum of Wales; Brunel’s ss Great Britain in Bristol; and the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law, Galleries of Justice, Nottingham. Last year’s winner was Pallant House in Chichester, home to one of the UK’s finest collections of modern British art.

The closing date for entries is Friday 2 November 2007.
