Royal Visit takes place at Dumfries House

  • 13 July 2007

The Prince of Wales paid his first visit to Dumfries House, the stately home he helped save for the nation, on 13 July.

The Prince of Wales was given a tour of the House and joined a reception held for the organisations and heritage bodies responsible for raising the necessary funds to secure the House and its contents for public enjoyment.

David Barrie, The Art Fund’s Director attended and spoke to members of the press about The Art Fund’s role in securing Dumfries House for the nation.  He told The Herald:  ‘I think it will be a roaring success.  In a sense, it is a bonus that not many people knew of its existence, because when it opens to the public they will find they have this treasure on their doorstep.’
