Sir Alex Ferguson speaks to Art Quarterly magazine

In the spring issue of Art Quarterly magazine Sir Alex Ferguson - the most successful manager in British football history - shares his thoughts on Stanley Spencer's Shipbuilding on the Clyde paintings.

Sir Alex Ferguson and his family worked in the Glasgow shipyards; Sir Alex as an apprentice toolmaker; his father as a sheet-metal worker; and his brother as a welder. As Sir Alex explains in Art Quarterly, Stanley Spencer’s wartime paintings of Glasgow shipyards bring back powerful childhood memories, as well as capturing a way of life that has gone forever.

Sir Alex is supporting the Imperial War Museum’s campaign to restore the paintings.
