Top names in the contemporary art world have bought a virtual Turner brushstroke to help The Art Fund's appeal to save Turner's The Blue Rigi for Tate.

Artists David Hockney, Peter Blake, Michael Craig-Martin, Jeremy Deller, Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Fiona Rae, Mark Wallinger, Rachel Whiteread, Bridget Riley, Howard Hodgkin, Peter Doig and Martin Creed have all offered their support in the race to save the masterpiece before 20 March.

Each online brushstroke costs £5 and the aim is to have raised £300,000 when the image is complete.

The Art Fund launched the public appeal with Tate on 22 January.
