The Surrey Committee has been well established for many years and currently there are nine members working to raise money for the Art Fund. On the whole the Committee runs a wide-ranging series of lectures, which take place at The Menuhin Hall, Stoke d'Abernon, Cobham, a lovely venue with free parking and an amazing acoustic. For example, recently there have been lectures on such diverse topics as 'The Musical World of Gainsborough and Zoffany' and 'Danish Art and Design'. We have 'Icons and the Sacred Art of Russia' to look forward to in November and then next year 'Renaissance Women Artists, Patrons and Subjects' as well as 'British Fashion in Art through the centuries' and ;The Aesthetic Movement and Japanese Art'.
The Committee also arranges visits, some to private studios and houses and some to larger venues. Recent visits have been to Adam Aaronson's Glass Studio and Norney Grange, a wonderful Voysey house, as well as Godinton House. Next year we are going to Champs Hill, Pulborough, Grange Park Opera at West Horsley Place and sculptor Philip Jackson's home and personal garden.
Please note that our lectures can now be booked through Eventbrite.
