What is Art Miles?

Art Miles is a new fundraising initiative organised by the Art Fund, the national fundraising charity for art, to help raise money for museums and galleries. It is a fun, cultural walk of approximately three miles in the grounds of the participating venues for people to support their local museum or gallery by raising money.

When is it taking place?

The first round of events are taking place on the morning of Sunday 22 March 2015 – exact timings to be confirmed once you have registered to participate.

Where is Art Miles taking place?

Three museums and galleries are taking part in our pilot events in 2015: Chiswick House & Gardens in west London, Dulwich Picture Gallery in south-east London and William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, east London.

Who can take part?

Anyone who would like to help raise money for their local museum or gallery! Register your interest by visiting artfund.org/artmiles.

How much is it to take part?

Adults pay £20 each to participate at their chosen venue on Sunday 22 March 2015. On arrival at the event and when they register on the day, they will be handed an Art Miles bag (one per fee-paying adult); children under the age of 12, accompanied by a fee-paying adult, go free of charge (up to four children can accompany a fee-paying adult). Children will not receive an Art Miles bag.

For those who register to take part, there are no additional ticket admin costs or debit/card costs on the transaction apart from the £20 fee per adult.

How do I register?

Visit artfund.org/artmiles and choose which venue you would like to visit for your Art Miles event. Tell all your friends to take part as well! Get sponsored and raise more money for your chosen museum or gallery – they really do need your support.

What does the walk involve?

Each participating venue will devise their own walk but it will include lots of points of historical and cultural interest with perhaps some surprises along the way. Do come appropriately dressed and with sensible footwear for the time of year and possibility of inclement weather. Please note that each participating venue will have its own health and safety guidelines which will be available on the day in order to ensure the safety of those visiting their site and taking part in Art Miles.

How long will it take?

Each walk is approximately three miles long, so depending on how fast you and your group walk, it may take around an hour to complete.

How do I raise more money for my chosen venue?

The registration fee to participate will be divided between the Art Fund and your chosen venue. However, in order to give more support to your local museum or gallery, please consider getting sponsorship by taking part in fancy dress, inspired by your museum! For more information on how to raise additional sponsorship, each participating venue will have details on how to create your own sponsorship page.

Will the money I give make a difference?

It truly will. Your local museum or gallery can only continue to show its fabulous collection, put on exhibitions and arrange special events with support from people like yourselves. 

Do the museums or galleries have to pay a fee to the Art Fund in order to become a participating venue?

No. The Art Fund has developed this initiative as part of its charitable objective to support museums and galleries.
