On behalf of us all at the Foundling, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated to The Fallen Woman’s Art Happens campaign.
Forty three days ago the thought of raising £23,000 felt pretty daunting. But we had faith that people would be captivated by the stories of the 19th-century mothers who left their babies at the Foundling Hospital, and eager to hear their voices. We were not wrong. Thanks to 198 wonderful donors our exhibition is now fully funded and we cannot wait to welcome you all to the show. I am also looking forward to spotting people sporting their rewards – the striking Lemn Sissay tote bag and the beautiful silver locket!
I would also like to thank Richard Wentworth for donating such a wonderful edition. His powers of observation and wit are rivalled only by his generosity.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone at the Art Fund for their support and encouragement. Having contributed so significantly at the Foundling Museum’s creation 10 years ago, it feels lovely to have the Art Fund’s support at the start of our second decade.
