The South London Gallery Fire Station opens this week!

Dear Art Happens donor,

We are thrilled to say that, thanks to your generous support, the furniture and equipment has now arrived at the Fire Station, ready for the grand opening of the building at 11am this Saturday 22 September!

We would like to invite you to join us for a celebratory weekend of free events and be among the first to see the South London Gallery's new annexe in the former Peckham Road Fire Station, renovated by 6a architects.

Visit KNOCK KNOCK, our group exhibition exploring humour in contemporary art, and take part in free activities throughout the weekend. Explore our new exhibition galleries, archive, kitchen, education studio and artist's studio all kitted out with furniture provided by you, and celebrate this historic moment with us.

There will be a selection of food on offer including a BBQ in the Orozco Garden and salads, sandwiches and more from The Habit café.

There has been some excellent media coverage of the building already in print and online including in the Evening Standard and The Times, and we hope this will lead to a very busy opening weekend. The furniture and equipment looks fantastic in the new spaces – so thank you once again for supporting our crowdfunding campaign. We couldn't have done it without you.

Your rewards are being prepared for despatch and will be arriving with you very soon. We appreciate your patience in waiting for them to be produced.

We hope to see you at the Fire Station soon.
