We’ve officially launched our crowdfunding project to save the frame of The Snake in the Grass by Sir Joshua Reynolds, one of Sir John Soane’s most treasured paintings.
We need your help to raise the £15,000 needed to return the frame to its original splendour. Please donate to our campaign, and help us even more by spreading the word.
Still need convincing? Here are five reasons to donate to #SaveTheFrame:
Directly fund the conservation of an historic frame
By donating you can directly fund the conservation of a 200-year-old frame in a national collection for generations to come. Your donation will fund the materials and expertise required to conserve this historic frame to a high level of detail. We hope to preserve as much of the original finish as we can, and will be covering our process later in the project.
Receive exclusive rewards, whatever you can give
We’ve created an exciting range of gifts and experiences to thank donors, each exclusive to the campaign. With a small donation we’ll reward you with a set of postcards or a #SaveTheFrame tote bag, and higher donations unlock prints and behind-the-scenes tours. See the full list on the rewards page.
Experience the project you funded as it unfolds
As well as a great reward, you’ll receive access to updates on the progress of the project after fundraising ends, and conservation work begins. We’ll share updates and photography from the conservation studio to our donors throughout the project. If you want to get even closer to the project, our £450 reward will grant you the exclusive opportunity to visit the Soane’s conservation studio and see the frame during re-gilding (and try a little gilding yourself).
Donate early and double the impact
Through Art Fund, a private donor has pledged to match donations pound for pound up to a total of £5,000. This means a £50 donation now contributes £100 to the campaign total. This means that by donating today, you can make double the impact to our campaign – helping us gain traction early on and secure the £15,000 target as early as possible.
Help us save even more frames
Reaching £15,000 as quick as we can is really important, because if we reach our target before the campaign ends, we will put further donations raised towards the repair of further frames in the collection. Let’s see how many more we can conserve!
How you can help:
If you haven’t already, please donate today. If you have, please help us spread the word by sharing with friends and colleagues, or on social media with #SaveTheFrame. This will help the campaign reach more potential donors, and help to save the frame of this Reynolds' masterpiece.
