Derek Jarman was a creative force, especially in film.
From his first experimental Super 8 shorts, to his first full-length feature film Sebastiane (1976) and his last, Blue (1993), to music videos shot for artists including the Smiths, Pet Shop Boys and Marianne Faithfull – his pioneering approach has inspired many others, including young and aspiring filmmakers.
In this video film critic Mark Kermode talks about Jarman’s importance, influence and creative legacy as a filmmaker.
As we approach our deadline to #SaveProspectCottage by 31 March, we want to thank The Luma Foundation for generously supporting the campaign and taking us to within £1m of our target.
The Luma Foundation shares Art Fund's commitment to protecting Derek Jarman's legacy as a pioneering filmmaker. They have restored his 92 Super 8 shorts and shared them with audiences worldwide.
We’re grateful to everyone who has got us this far. There are just 35 days left to raise the remaining 28% needed to #SaveProspectCottage – thank you for spreading the word.
