Great news! Through Art Fund, a private donor has pledged to match donations pound for pound up to a total of £5,000. So a £50 donation now contributes £100 to the campaign total.
We have some extremely desirable rewards on offer, including a shard of William Billingsley’s original Nantgarw porcelain mounted in sterling silver as a pendant necklace. These shards have all been excavated from beneath the original Nantgarw bottle kilns and are examples of the almost 90% of porcelain destroyed in the kiln. Each shard shows signs of crazing, warping or slumping and no two are alike. Only one hundred necklaces will be created and they will be available only through this crowdfunding campaign.
Each necklace is handmade by Abergavenny jeweller Kimmi Davies, whose practice specialises in creating jewellery from discarded and broken ceramic plates. Kimmi is uniquely qualified to perform the work having earlier in her career qualified as a ceramics conservator and worked in museums in Norway and Ireland. She will professionally clean and conserve each shard before mounting it in hallmarked silver with a silver chain. Each will be delivered in a presentation box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Other rewards include a traditional Welsh cream tea for two at Nantgarw China Works, followed by a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the museum. The tour will include areas not generally open to the public including artists’ studios, William Billingsley’s laboratory and the inside of a bottle kiln.
Please give generously to the campaign and help Nantgarw return to its rightful place at the forefront of ceramic design and manufacture. Don't forget all your donations are doubled from June.
