Help us bring artist Doug Fishbone’s Leisure Land Golf to the Artists Garden at York Art Gallery this summer. Fully playable, the course is comprised of 7 holes, by artists John Akomfrah, Doug Fishbone, Ellie Harrison, Yinka Shonibare, Hetain Patel, Reactor and Eyal and Ines Weizman.
We’re especially keen to bring this exciting contemporary art project to York because the format of mini golf itself offers an accessible and interactive way of engaging with contemporary art. Each of these works has been created by highly respected international artists who are dealing with current political, social and economic issues around the theme of leisure.
The course will be displayed in the Artists Garden, a new two-acre space at the rear of the newly refurbished York Art Gallery. Enclosed by the medieval walls of St Mary’s Abbey precinct, this would be the second art work to be shown in the space since it was revealed in 2015.
York is not traditionally associated with contemporary art – we want the opportunity to bring cutting edge contemporary pieces to people in York. The installation of Leisure Land Golf will give visitors the opportunity to experience exciting and challenging art in a peaceful green space in the centre of the city.
Together, we can bring innovative contemporary art to the heart of York. Please help us make this happen and get some brilliant rewards in return.
Doug Fishbone's Leisure Land Golf is a touring exhibition by New Art Exchange (NAE), Nottingham. The Exhibition was originally commissioned by EM15, a collective of arts organisations from the East Midlands, for the #56 Venice Biennale.
