It’s the end of our first week of the campaign we are delighted to say we’re 20% funded. We wanted to express our gratitude to everyone who has donated so far to help us re-imagine our Victorian stairway and make Lothar Götz’s vision a reality, we’re one step closer – but we still have some way to go!
This campaign is particularly important to Leeds Art Gallery and its history, because back in the 1800’s the gallery actually came about through crowdfunding.
Back in 1868, there was no permanent art collection for the city. So a group of Leeds art lovers, alongside celebrity John Ruskin, set up a public subscription. It took them 20 years to achieve their vision. Now, 149 years later, our Art Happens campaign takes us right back to our roots of crowdfunding.
We’re now calling out to all those that love art and want to contribute to making great things happen. Help us to bring our iconic original Victorian staircase back to life with an incredible installation by Lothar Götz. Check out the beautiful rewards bespoke to this project and own a piece of Leeds Art Gallery’s history! We have until 18 May to reach our target of £17,000 – become a donor from just £5.
