Ladies of Quality exceeds its goal of £20,000

We have some very exciting news – we have not only hit our target of £20,000, we have actually exceeded it!

Thanks to two large donations this afternoon we have exceeded our target by more than we could ever have hoped, including one for £10,000. We are absolutely thrilled by this generous gift, and were delighted to hear that it is the biggest single gift in Art Happens history!

A huge thank you to every person who has given so far - whether £5 or £10,000. Every single donation has made a world of difference and means that not only are we are able to track down the portraits of the 21 women who saved thousands of children’s lives and bring them back to the site of the Foundling Hospital, but the extra money will aid us in researching and revealing the stories of even more extraordinary women if we can. Alongside the portraits of the duchesses and countesses who signed Thomas Coram’s first petition, we would also like to explore the personal untold stories of the women who worked for the Foundling Hospital in the 200 years it took in babies at risk of abandonment.

This will include women such as the Hospital matrons and scullery maids, as well the wet nurses and foster mothers who took the babies in and cared for them before their life at the Hospital began. To date, we have not had the opportunity to delve into these women’s histories in detail, but with your help we can undertake vital research to uncover the stories that have been forgotten.

There’s still time to be a part of our campaign, and to continue to raise funds so we can shine a light on the women who worked tirelessly to care for the thousands of children that the 21 ladies’ actions saved. To say thank you for your donation, until the end of the day you can choose from a selection of exclusive rewards, such as a private curator tour of the exhibition or a framed and signed print specially designed for us by Matthew the Horse.

All donations, no matter what the size, make a huge difference.

Thank you.
