We’re thrilled to have raised more than £360,000 so far, taking us over a third of the way to our goal.
By raising £1 million we will be able to help many more museums across the UK adapt to the challenges of the pandemic and innovate for the future.
Last week some of us were able to visit a favourite museum or gallery after the national lockdown was lifted, and it was great to be back in these inspiring spaces.
But we know that it’s not that simple for a museum to fling open its doors.
Museums rely on visitors to survive, but lockdowns and social distancing measures have led to a huge reduction in income. For some, it’s a financial struggle to reopen.
And of course, for many museums in parts of the UK that are subject to tougher restrictions, reopening isn’t yet an option. Around half of the 800+ museums we work with remained closed after the most recent lockdown.
This is why your support is going to be vital in helping museums face the continuing challenges of Covid-19. With £1 million we’ll be able to fund a whole range of important activity, helping museums bring their collections to life in new ways, reach more people in person and online, deliver inspirational community projects, and so much more.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing stories from some of those museums we’ve already been able to support. Until then – thank you for helping us hit 36%, and please share #TogetherForMuseums with friends and family.
