The lights are shining and the end is in sight

21/10/2021

The lights are in! We are delighted to share some exclusive first photos of the statement lights, which your donations helped us to install, in the beautiful refurbished Assembly Hall of Inverness Creative Academy. We’re sure you’re as excited as we are to see them in their full glory once the space is opened to the public.

We’re also very happy to share progress on the capital project. The team, at Wasps and on site, has employed enormous efforts to drive the project forward during challenging times over the past 18 months. However, unprecedented COVID related impacts on the construction sector have caused unavoidable delays to our programme. We remain positive, and are now working to a handover date of mid-December, with tenant occupation from January 2022.

Despite these COVID related impacts, which have affected the construction industry nationwide, the quality of the building works remain high and we are confident that the impact the facility will have across the Highlands will be extremely positive.

Activity has continued in the Phase 1 building with an exciting line up of events and workshops. Look out for news of the Wasps Winter Artist and Makers Market in the building on 27 & 28 November, and see all events on the newly redesigned Wasps website.

Your rewards are underway for delivery, and postcards, cushions and totes should be with you soon. We are sorry to say however that there is a slight delay to print related rewards due to supply issues. We are working with the Art Fund team and suppliers to ensure these are with you as soon as possible.

All of us at Wasps are enormously grateful for support we’ve received from our funders, partners and supporters since the wider project began in 2018, and we wanted to ensure that you were among the first to learn of the project’s latest developments. We’ll be updating the wider public on the new timetable in the coming weeks, and look forward to inviting all of our Art Happens supporters to visit the building in the New Year. In the meantime, thanks for your patience, and we hope you love your rewards when they come.
