At the end of the first week of the campaign we are thrilled to be 22% funded. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far to help us bring Paula Rego to Jerwood Gallery, for her first major UK public gallery exhibition in 10 years.
The exhibition title, The Boy Who Loved the Sea and Other Stories, takes its name from a Portuguese folk-tale that Paula's recent artworks are inspired by. If we raise the money, these works, along with iconic favourites from other stories, will be on display here in Hastings.
On a recent visit to her studio, I was reminded of what an enchanting story-teller Paula is, as she told me the story of The Boy Who Loved the Sea. Like many good stories, it ended with a dark twist.
These works have never been seen publicly before, so if we are successful in raising the funds, it will be the first time that anyone has seen these works outside the studio.
Here's a sneak peek of the £200 reward, which includes this poster design signed by Paula. Chosen by Paula herself, this will be the official exhibition poster should we raise 100% of our target. This reward level also includes two tickets to the private view and the wonderful limited edition ceramic plate.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next update. We will be sure to keep you posted on how things are going.
