Update: Paula Rego: The Boy Who Loved the Sea and Other Stories opens at Jerwood Gallery on 21 October 2017 and runs until 7 January 2018.
Help us bring artistic legend Paula Rego to Jerwood Gallery this autumn, for a major exhibition that celebrates the gallery's fifth birthday and Rego's love of the sea.
It's been 10 years since Rego's last major UK public exhibition and inspired by stories of the sea, her new work will tell the story of the Boy Who Loved the Sea, bringing to life the characters and narrative of this traditional tale, but with Rego's signature dark twist.
Dame Paula Rego is a legend of figurative art. She has received international critical acclaim for her brilliance as a painter of people and teller of stories. Throughout her life, Rego has been inspired by folk tales and nursery rhymes and by people's stories. Born in Portugal and raised in a coastal town, not unlike Hastings, she moved with her family to the UK when she was a child. Now Jerwood Gallery wants to bring Paula Rego back to the coast for an exhibition revealing the depths and fascinations of this remarkable artist.
We need to raise £25,000 to make this exhibition happen. Can you help us? If you donate, you will receive a special reward to say thank you.
