By donating to our Art Happens campaign you will be supporting us to make a powerful statement about how important arts education is in Folkestone and beyond. Alongside the 2017 Folkestone Triennial, the artist Bob and Roberta Smith will make the visual declaration that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL, promoting arts education for everybody.
With your support we will produce more than twenty painted banners, signs and statements that will cover some of the town’s most iconic landmarks, including Folkestone's Martello Tower, Central Station's platform three and a variety of highly visible public spaces such as the Creative Quarter, harbour area and town centre.
These visual shouts will range from 1 to 25 metres in length with some humongous pieces popping up around the town, including one that is large enough to adorn a 40ft Napoleonic watch tower! They will be seen by over 145,000 visitors who come to the Folkestone Triennial this autumn – an unmissable opportunity to celebrate the creativity happening in our town!
With your support, the banners will be accompanied by workshops with teachers from the local primary and secondary schools to enable hundreds of local school children to take the declaration back to the classrooms, create their own signs and banners and celebrate art and creativity together. At another event we want to spell out Bob’s rallying message FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL, with our painted bodies at low tide on Sunny Sands beach.
This can only happen with your help! Please support us, be part of this ambitious project and help us to shout about arts education. There are fantastic rewards linked to every donation, small and large, from postcards to limited editions by the artist.
