Housed in Henry II's Orford Castle (owned by English Heritage), the museum collects and displays historical material relating to the area between the Butley River and the River Alde.
It records Orford's prominence as a medieval borough and port, and the changing shape of the offshore shingle spit Orford Ness, formerly used for military testing and now a nature reserve. The collection exists thanks to the sustained efforts of local people, and a virtual museum is viewable in Orford Church.
