Leicester’s social history and regimental museum spans the two Newarke Houses, historic houses and tranquil gardens marked by the Civil War.
Both built around 1511, Wygston Chantry House and Skeffington House - known collectively as Newarke Houses - are now home to objects dating from the Tudor period onwards, as well as galleries dedicated to the collection of the Leicestershire regiment.
Visit to discover toys from the early 1500s to the present, including a 6ft teddy bear and interactive dressing up boxes, as well as personal possessions belonging to Daniel Lambert, Leicester's former gaoler and once Britain's largest man.
Follow the journey of local soldiers to the frontline, explore a recreated WWI trench and 1950s street scene including a drapers shop, grocers, and interactive pub, complete with stories from Leicester residents.
The museum's beautiful public gardens are perfect for a picnic; look out for the holes for guns made in the walls during the Civil War on your visit.
