Nestled in the heart of Ashburton, within Dartmoor National Park in Devon, lies this volunteer run museum, housed in a Grade II listed building.
Unveiling Ashburton's story
Step inside, and you'll be transported on a journey through time, exploring the rich tapestry of Ashburton's past, through a collection of artefacts, photographs, and exhibits spread over three floors. Discover how the town has evolved, from its medieval roots as a stannary town, to the thriving woollen industry that shaped its character.
American donation
The museum boasts a rather unexpected treasure by way of a unique collection of Native American artefacts. These were donated by the late Paul Endacott, whose father, Frank Charles Endacott was born and raised in Ashburton but later emigrated to Kansas, USA.
The Ashburton History Museum is a testament to the dedication of volunteers who manage and fund it. With thoughtfully curated exhibits and a warm welcome, this charming little museum is worth a visit.
