878 AD
With a National Art Pass you get
Interactive museum 878 AD invites you on an immersive adventure back in time to Anglo-Saxon Winchester.
There are two sides to the thrilling experience on offer at 878 AD: the interactive attraction with live performance; and an augmented reality, taking you on a self-led tour of Winchester in the Anglo-Saxon era. The inspiration behind the experience is rooted in the Battle of Edington in 878, when Alfred the Great – King of the West Saxons – defeated the Vikings, as well as the Discovery Tour: Viking Age add-on to the video game Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
Journey back to a pivotal moment in Winchester’s history as the city’s people anxiously waited to hear of Alfred’s victory (or defeat) and explore where real and gaming worlds collide. 878 AD offers a unique opportunity for all the family to experience and learn about history together.
878 AD was supported by a Reimagine grant from Art Fund.
